History Of The Green Mountain Rangers
The Green Mountain Rangers were founded by a small group, and led my LT Macpherson from 1999 until 2003. About this time, GMR was one of very few organized teams in the country. The entire Northeastern Airsoft Group at that time, consisted of only 40 members. During this time, GMR doubled its original size by merging early on with Team Assist, a New Jersey based airsoft team. With this merger came some key players- Strike, S2, and Wawa.

In 2003, the team was left to Ghost & Dark Knight who helped stabilize the unit, and build a foundation, on very which what GMR relies on even today. Due to the loss of many players who were being called away for other reasons. GMR initiated and performed it's final merger- with a very small, but aggressive unit- CTS. CTS consisted of only 4 members, but was making their strong appearances at many events across the Northeast. A week after CTS hosted their first event (Which was the very first, Battle for Tolland) GMR offered positions to help build their pwer tearm. The four players were Ronin, Punchline, Mick, and Pawn. All from the lower NY region.

At the time, GMR rolled the field with two squads. Axe Squad & Hammer Squad. GMR needed two more to fill these squads out. Punchline and Mick each nominated Mole and MJRC to the squad. At the time, they were still pretty green- which spawned the 18-month candidacy program which GMR still honors today.

When Ghost had stepped down in 2004, Knight and Punchline shaped the team- who made an appearance to Operation Irene III. During this event, GMR sent 4 unit members. Ronin, Punchline, Mole, and MJRC. At the event, they were put into a squad with a few other players who would later turn in to pivotal key members that would eventually help propel this team into their contempary status. Blackjack, Bushwick, and Kurtz. GMR would bring them in, and introduced once again, their training program, and commitment to building a new team. At Operation Irene IV. GMRs weekly trainings had taken them to a new level of integrity and honor. GMR rode in to OP:Irene IV on Tactical Folding Assault Bikes, and instantly helped immediately change the ebb and flow of the event. GMR became the Tip of the Spear.

Because of Operation Irene III- the entire sport had to ask itself new questions and had to face a now evolutionary factor of the sport.

GMR began to look elsewhere to play. In the fall of 2005, GMR registered for Berget V, an international milsim event in Sweden.

While during training for Berget- Knight had stepped down, and Blackjack had been placed in charge of the very long train up in preparation for Berget V.

During this time, Strike and Blackjack took the reigns and led the team through Europe, another Irene, Northern Wind, Operation Blackjack, Multiple Operation Pine Plains, and through several large regional events.

In 2009, Strike stepped down and longtime player Ronin stepped up. Together with Blackjack regimented the team through even more rigorous training, and set a new standard for airsoft. GMR took in three new candidates during this period- whom prior to Operation Pine Plains IV were made active. Ben, Waapur, and Lance.

Today- GMR has traveled the country this year- and made appearances in 17 different states, including California. They helped establish the MAATC Conference, a private event to help share and grow teams from all across the country. The event was held in Southern California, which they attended.

Origins of the Green Mountain Rangers Name
The Green Mountain Rangers (GMR) are an Airsoft unit with members from the New England states plus New York. The GMR comprises ex-military and civilian unit members.

The Green Mountain Rangers were founded in northern New England, and their name is derived from and pays tribute to two bands of soldiers hailing from this area. The Green Mountain Boys were Vermont men organized to fight New York tax collectors and protect the ownership of the lands within the New Hampshire Grants. On May 10, 1775, a small group of Green Mountain Boys under the leadership of Ethan Allen and Seth Warner infiltrated the British-held Fort Ticonderoga and demanded its surrender. The cannons and mortars they captured were taken to Boston, enabling General Washington to eject the British from this critical seaport.

The other part of the GMR name pays tribute to Rogers Rangers. Led by a New England native, this band of scouts played a crucial role in the French and Indian wars. Most notably, Major Rogers led two hundred of his Rangers on a 300-mile journey from Crown Point on Lake Champlain north through enemy-held territory to attack and destroy the St. Francis Indians. It was an incredibly harsh journey in which many Rangers died. However, the result of the trip was that this Indian tribe, which had killed many settlers, was dealt an almost-fatal blow. Major Rogers attributed the Rangers’ success to the training of his men, which included guerilla operations and sniping. Today their skills and tactics are known as "Rogers’ Ranging Rules" and are practiced by U.S. Army Rangers.

GMR Training Facilities
The unit primarily conducts excesses at their own training facilities located in Massachusetts. The GMR "Ranch" consists of mountainous woodland terrain and a 2 story shoot-house with accommodations for up to 15 unit members. The facility is privately owned and exclusively used by the unit.

The Green Mountain Rangers also exercise in Tolland, Massachusetts. Clark’s Farm is a 300 acre facility covering the rolling hills and mountains of western New England. The Farm is dotted with bunkers and simulated installations such as fuel dumps and command posts. Airsoft players along with WWII enthusiasts use the facility and help refurbish the obstacles and installations yearly.

The Green Mountain Ranger Unit Crest
The unit’s crest best symbolizes the history and tradition in which the GMR is steeped. The emblem symbolizes the honor and quiet professionalism to which all unit members strive. The Twin Mountains represents their origin, the source of their strength, and the journey all Rangers must follow to achieve success. The green field embodies their loyalty to fellow unit members and good health. The black border denotes the unit’s ability to deliver swift and overwhelming force against any opponent. The vampire skull symbolizes their immortality as a unit, their fierceness in battle, and their love of the night. The Ranger band holds them together as Green Mountain Rangers. The dagger is a symbol of the strength, honor, and heritage by which every Green Mountain Ranger lives.
